Kmart and Target recall walkie-talkies over frequency blunder

A popular brand of walkie-talkie is being urgently recalled from major Australian retailers due to a serious frequency blunder that could land users in legal trouble.

Kmart and Target are pulling ANKO long-range walkie-talkies from their shelves after the devices were found to be operating on licensed radio channels.

The affected frequencies are used by councils, transport operators and mining companies for their official communications.

The blunder means anyone using the devices could be unknowingly breaking communications laws by interfering with licensed radio channels.

Both retailers are offering customers a full refund for the product.

Anyone who has purchased the ANKO long-range walkie-talkies is urged to return them to their nearest Kmart or Target store immediately.
